– Resignation of Members Representative

12 February, 2025 By Webmaster

From: Noel Greene
Subject: Resignation of Members Representative

When I received notification on Friday last that the AGM was further delayed until Friday 28 February at 11.00am I immediately resigned as Members Representative from the Club Committee.
It was never my intention to put my name forward for reelection for 2025 so I had assumed that my tenure on the Club Committee would end on 18th January 2025. So with yet another postponement I asked myself could this go on and on and would there even be an AGM this year.
I know that the majority of members accept that the 2024 Committee worked very diligently in ensuring that Members interests were at the forefront of every decision taken. I can say that there were 5 very different and strong personalities on the 2024 Committee – some Committee meetings were very difficult but in every case there was either consensus or majority decisions taken.
Thanks to the Captain Boris Zilbermints for his leadership in very difficult circumstances for him personally. He was always the first to call a vote on contentious issues and once a decision was taken that was it.
My thanks also to Vice Captain Catrin, who brought a new dimension to the organisation of Inter Club matches, who brought multiple sponsorships to the Club, and if I am not mistaken ran the knockouts with a precision unseen before at SV.
On behalf of the Members, special thanks due to Michele who brought a new level of efficiency to the management of Club Competitions. I think that only the Committee members could fully understand the amount of time, effort and indeed thought that went into her daily work over the past year.
I leave the Treasurer Matt Wake until last. What sort of a Golf Club are we at SV where the best Treasurer we ever had feels the need to not renew both his and Irene’s membership at Secret Valley. It was Matt who discovered the VAT anomaly which resulted in most members getting VAT refunds never mind saving the proprietors hundreds of thousands of Euro per year.
And yet he feels the need to walk away. Members should think long and hard about that.
And thanks to my partner Margrit, who had to put up with my mood swings over the past year. I would not allow this to happen again.

Regards

Noel Greene

– Vegas Scramble

12 February, 2025 By Webmaster

Good morning
We have the first Vegas Scramble soon.
Perhaps some members do not know this alternative version of a Texas Scramble.
As you may have guessed it requires the roll of a dice.  This determines the choice of shot.
Each player in the 4ball is allocated a number for the round, 1 to 4, and after all players have played their shots the die is rolled.  If the number is between 1 and 4, then the corresponding player’s shot is the one selected.
If a 5 or 6 is rolled, the team gets to choose whichever shot they prefer.
Play the rest of the hole in Texas Scramble format.
I have already bought foam dice.  One per team will need to be collected from and returned to the ProShop.
Please re-throw the dice if its between numbers.  As they are foam, may I suggest it is thrown on the cart path towards the kerb.
This version enables the best player to still play a major part, but the rest of the team are continually kept in the game.

It is meant to be fun, you can challenge each other to get the best thrower.
Kind regards

Michele Miller

Resignation of Treasurer

9 February, 2025 By SVGR Treasurer

Dear Members,
Irene and I have decided that we do not wish to renew our membership for 2025 and with effect from 16th February we will not be members of SVGC. In accordance with the Club Constitution, I cannot then hold any position on the SVGC Committee. I have therefore today tendered my resignation as Club Treasurer to the acting Club Captain with immediate effect.
I have handed over all of the cash within the Members Funds previously under my custody, a total of €2,807, and have received a signed receipt from the Acting Captain to that effect.
I shall now be unable to attend the forthcoming AGM to deliver the Treasurer’s Report to the Members and so I have uploaded a written report to the Member’s portal in the section where Income and Expense Reports are posted.
Could I suggest to each and every Member, who last year signed a petition to remove me (and my hard working Committee colleagues) from office, that they now consider devoting a substantial amount of their time to provide a service to Members on a completely voluntary and unpaid basis and volunteer to fill the Treasurer position that I now vacate – failing which yet more responsibilities which should rightly be held within the structure of the Members’ Committee may instead be transferred to a paid contractor of Management, reporting to Management.
I wish to advise that, on Wednesday 29th January, I wrote to the Proprietor (with copy to the Vice Captain) to seek assurances from the Proprietor that (1) in accordance with section 4c of the Club Constitution, the Committee had full responsibility for the organisation of club competitions and (2) the Proprietor would honour the Club Constitution.  I am pleased to say that the Proprietor promptly confirmed that “the Committee is responsible for organising golf competitions and social events – that is 100% clear”. The Proprietor further confirmed that it would be “up to the Committee to decide on how to operate to fulfil this responsibility”.  The Proprietor additionally confirmed their full respect to the Club Constitution and I thank the Proprietor for these clear assurances.  A copy of that correspondence has been passed to all Committee Members.
With best regards,
Matt Wake
