We are starting a little later than in previous years on the major Charity raising activities of the 150 Club and the Free Membership Prize Raffle but I would hope that this short delay will not hinder your ability to collectively demonstrate your kind hearted nature and to meet our obligation to be generous towards those whose lives is not as enriched as our own.
My charity, which I have personally supported for a number of years, is the “Rainbow in Cyprus” charity. They are based locally in Paphos and they enable disabled children who live outside of Cyprus to come here for a period of fun and enjoyment that they would otherwise not experience in their difficult and restricted lives. I have received some feedback from those who are assisting in the Charity raising efforts that some members appear to be manifesting their angst against me as Club Captain into a reluctance to support what is a very worthwhile charity. I recognise that we may have different views regarding what is best for the Club but I cannot imagine that our members would go so far as to penalise the lives of disabled children simply to send me a message of disapproval.
I ask you all to find within yourselves the goodness and kind heartedness that will enable you to overcome any negative feelings against me, or the Committee, and to rally behind my Charity raising efforts so that we, collectively, can generate a substantial gift to enrich the lives of those less fortunate than ourselves.
