Dear members,
on Saturday we had our Captain’s Day competition in which 106 players (27 teams) took part. Despite hot weather and very strong gusts of wind the scores were good and highly competitive.
I would like to congratulate our winners – “Twilighters” team with a great result and “Foreplayers” team with winning the third place, all nearest to the pin and nearest to the line winners, and everyone who took part in the competition. I do hope it was fun and enjoyable. We had a very large field of players: 86 Secret Valley members and 20 guests representing all Cyprus golf clubs – Aphrodite Hills, Elea, Minthis, and Korineum. It was my idea to invite them and to try to set up a new tradition where other clubs’ teams are invited to the Captain’s Day competition. During 2023-2024 we have established very good relations with other club members through the Interclub competitions and I wanted to build on that momentum. The feedback received after the event was very positive.
There were many people that contributed to the success of the Captain’s Day and I would like to thank and to honor them:
Our Sponsors – TopQuotes Insurance company, who provided significant funds as well as active personal participation. Seven beautiful ladies were assisting me with the drinks service and helping Adam with the “beat the Pro” monitoring. They have learned what the game of golf is about and I do hope our fruitful cooperation with TopQuotes will continue.
“Rainbow in Cyprus” charity – helped us procure prizes and to conduct a very successful auction. Overall, through registration fees, donations, and the auction we raised 4,150 Euro. Bravo! This money will allow the charity to bring to Cyprus two children with disabilities and to give them some joy and happiness. Both boys will visit our Club on Saturday, September 28th and you will be able to greet them after our competition.
My fellow Committee members Catrin, Michele, Noel, and Matt, who have not always believed in what I planned to do for the Captain’s Day, but stuck with me and provided invaluable support.
Our club proprietors and management Michalis Xiouros, Nicos Raounas, Adam Collinson, Joe Lines, and all the marshals and caddies who put a lot of effort in organising and running the event. Adam was almost unbeatable on Hole 16 and only very few managed to get past him and score extra points for their teams.
Toma and her team who as always spare no efforts in keeping happy over a hundred thirsty players who all showed up almost simultaneously.
Mick O’Driscoll, Tony Hawke, Terry Scott, who have assisted me with their advice, wisdom, and many vouchers for the auction.
Jeremy Kramer who made a large donation to the Charity on behalf of the “Bomba Golf Group” and Christos Vassiliadis of Ekfraseis Winery, who has been a big sponsor throughout the year, played in the competition and donated several lots to the charity auction.
World famous DJ Maurice, who set up his equipment before the sunrise, played in the competition, and then supplemented the presentation and lunch with his excellent choice of music. And all of this on a voluntary, no fee, basis.
And finally, my wife Kristina and my children Sasha and Liza who came to support me at the presentation, who put up with me being completely swamped for several days with the Captain’s Day preparation, who allowed me to use our family buggy to be able to drive two large coolers and two beautiful TopQuotes assistants all over the golf course keeping everyone smiling and hydrated. I would not have done it without the support of my family.
I am very proud of all of you, and I am honored to be your Captain.
