Dear members,
as you know during the Captain’s Day we raised 4,150 Euro for the “Rainbow in Cyprus” Charity. This money allowed the Charity to bring to Cyprus two boys Roman and Arthur together with their mothers and to give them some joy and happiness. As announced earlier, both boys will visit our Club on Saturday, September 28th and you will be able to greet them after our competition at around 2 pm.

Roman
Roman was born early in the 30th week of pregnancy, weighing 1328 grams and measuring 39 cm tall. Roman has been a fighter since birth …
Unfortunately, doctors did not notice the detachment of Roman’s retina in time in the maternity hospital, which led to total blindness. During 5 years of Roman’s life 10 surgeries have been made on his eyes to save them as an organ, as aesthetic appearance is also important. In his left eye, Roman still has light perception, which allows him to orientate himself well in space. Unfortunately, science and medicine have not yet learnt how to restore full vision in case of total retinal detachment. And now Roman needs only organ- saving surgeries for aesthetic appearance and to prevent frequent haemorrhages in his eyes due to high pressure.
Diagnosis: Stage 5 Retinopathy of Prematurity.
Despite his diagnosis, Roman is a very active boy. Since the age of 2.5 he has been swimming. From the age of 4 he started to study music, in particular vocal and piano. Roman himself by hearing picks up notes on the piano and plays melodies. He is a cheerful and musical child. He dreams of going to the sea, where there is sand and shells. This year Roman even asked his mom to buy him a bucket and a trowel, because he believed that his dream will come true and he will visit the sea.
Arthur
Arthur had his first stroke when he was two months old. After that, the doctors found a serious vascular anomaly on an MRI scan. At the age of two and a half, he had a second stroke. Doctors insisted on surgery, but they were afraid, because at that time it was the only child with such a diagnosis in Latvia. At the age of three Arthur had a head operation, but something went wrong, and a third stroke occurred. Arthur became paralysed.
Arthur was re-learning how to hold his head up, sit up, walk. In fact, he lived in the hospital.

The final diagnosis: VENAE GALENI MALFORMACIJA,SIMPTOMOTICESKAJA EPILEPSIJA, SUNTIROVANIE.
At the moment Arthur is studying remotely in the 9th grade, he attends the Paralympic center where he plays ball sports, he has daily physiotherapy sessions, he really likes and benefits from hippotherapy (riding a horse).
He has a very, very long-standing dream to go to the sea. Especially attracted to Cyprus – because it is the land of legends and sunshine.
