On Friday, June 16th we had the 2023 Captain's Shootout.
The shootout started at 15:00. It took about 20 minutes to play the first hole and was at times absolute mayhem. So the ladies teed off at about 15:20.
12 men battled over 9 holes. The first hole had a 3 man playoff and only 1 could go though. There were playoffs on 5 of the 9 holes. The final 2 left standing on the last tee box were Johnny Howse and Boyd Ranwell. Both players were in trouble on the hole and both managed to make bogies.so a playoff was required to determine the winner. In the playoff, Johnny hit a nice little pitch shot from short right of the green that did not check enough and ran out to about 10 ft. Boyd hit a nice chip that pitched in the fringe and over-checked leaving him about 20 ft away. So Johnny emerged victorious.
It should be noted that Johnny was the lowest handicap golf and as such teed off first on every hole..He had a very steady 9 holes apart from the 4th where he had a double and was in a 3 man playoff.
11 Ladies battled over 9 holes. On the final tee, the last 2 players were Iona Elliott and Gali Cattermole. Both tied on the last hole and they were give a very difficult chip on the downslope of the far left hand bunker. Iona bounced her chip though a bunker to about 30 ft.. Gail hit a very nice chip it ot about 20 ft and was victorious..
