40 seconds
This is the time allowed to play your shot, and in most cases, it should be much quicker.
This 40 seconds includes:
- Getting distances
- Putting on the glove
- Deciding which club to use
- Deciding the line of play.
The standard of ready golf at Secret Valley and Pace of Play generally, has been a hot topic for over 12 months. It is frustrating for everyone. Everyone is entitled to enjoy their round, this includes those behind you.
Responsibility for pace of play in a flight is a collective one. For example there is no honour except in matchplay. Remind and encourage each other.
Be ready to play.
When safe to do so, use common sense. For example where someone needs to rake the bunker, play your shot while they do that. Those in buggies can drop off the first player, go to their own ball, play and then come back for them.
Front 9 – you should complete the front 9 in no more than 2hrs 15mins. If you are late you must grab and go at the Halfway House, by not sitting down, you can help greatly improve the flow on the course.
The Director of Golf will work with the Marshals to assist with Pace of Play – a crucial element. Abuse of Marshals will not be tolerated by management or your Committee.
It has been suggested a Starter is not required Tuesdays and Saturdays in favour of having two Marshals on the course from the get go. This should also enhance the flow of the game.
The 2024 Committee are determined to deal effectively with slow play issues. We will work closely with the Director of Golf in monitoring slow play, and serious issues of slow play by members may incur sanctions such as loss of access to future club competitions.
