It is with great sadness that I must inform members that a past Captain, of Secret Valley Golf Club, Brenda Churcher died early in the New Year.
Brenda had been suffering from ill health for a number of years, and it was always hard for those of us who knew this formidable lady to imagine her deterioration as her illness took away her ability firstly to play golf and gradually her independence.
Brenda was Lady Club Champion on no fewer than 4 occasions. What an achievement! Her name features in 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2014. During her “gap” year 2012 she was Club Captain and quite outstanding in that role.
An energetic, persuasive lady Brenda found inventive means of extracting money from members to support local charities. She introduced what is now the 150 Club, which has continued to successfully support numerous charities over the years.
Her successor as Captain, Ted McMichael said, “Brenda thought SVGC was her second home and ruled the roost in her own kindly way and maintained the friendly atmosphere that was the Club’s mantra. She has been missed for the past few years by the many who knew her.”
We send sincere condolences to Brenda’s husband Keith and their family. They must be so proud of this lovely lady.
