Championships Update

We wish to update Members to a change to the eligibility criteria (to that previously advised on 10th April) for the entry into the Club Championships and provide some background to this change.
Under the current Constitution of our Club, the Committee has responsibility for the management of member competitions.
The Management, at its sole discretion and without consultation with either this or any prior Committee, has determined that a certain organisation willing to pay a fixed annual fee can nominate 24 players who can then enjoy the opportunity to play one four ball every day (subject to availability). The organisation currently holds four such arrangements.
This Committee believes that such terms are overly generous towards that organisation and are not equitable towards the Members of the Club who make an upfront payment to the Resort for their playing rights. 
Following the raising of this matter at the January 2023 AGM, Management regularised these terms in writing to the said organisation without feeling the need for any prior consultation with Committee – despite the knowledge that there was considerable Membership resentment towards such an arrangement.
The Committee has this year sought to reserve entry into the Club Championships for those individuals who have made a direct payment to the Resort (in the majority of cases for thousands of euros) for their membership. This would in effect exclude those players who, under the terms of the Corporate arrangement, have not made any direct payment to the Resort and, instead, make payments to their organisation.
Management has drawn the Committee’s attention to the terms of the arrangement that Management has agreed (without Committee consultation) with the aforementioned organisation and its desire to meet the commitments that it has made.
Notwithstanding that the Committee feels strongly that such difficulties could have been easily avoided had Management shown respect for the Committee’s authority and sought their feelings on this matter before making any firm commitments, the Committee recognises that Management would not wish to be seen reneging on the assurances given to those organisations.
Consequently, and following a clear instruction from Management, the Committee amends its eligibility criteria to the following:
* Handicap managed by SV
* 3 Handicap Qualifying Club Competitions since AGM 2024
* Entry Subject to Availability and in the same order as per the Member’s Portal.
The Committee felt strongly that for the Championship the employees of the Club should have a priority over the “Corporate” members as they have shown year after year their support and dedication to the Club. Unfortunately, such a motion was denied by the Director of Golf.
Up to the Championship the members will have had an opportunity to play in as many as 13 Q competitions and the Committee believes that playing in a three out of thirteen competitions is a reasonable requirement.
Finally, the Committee believes that it has correctly judged the feelings of the Members on this issue, but we are left with no choice due to the agreed Corporate Terms and Conditions.

Important Update

Dear Members
Club Championships
The Club Captain and Committee continue to work on behalf of Members.
Please note the Championships are almost full.  
With many entrants, it is likely the selection criteria (of Plat/Gold/Twi/Exec etc) will be invoked.
The response to the addition of a Championship Plate/ Stableford has been extremely well supported by Members who will now be able to participate in the Championship Weekend.
As a matter of urgency please advise Jamie if you would like to move from Medal to Stableford.

150 Club news

the first draw of this year’s 150 Club was held on the balcony on Tuesday, April 16th. The winners of the March draw were:

Championship Update 17.04.2024

Dear Club Members

 

The Club Championships weekend, 11 and 12th May 2024, is fast approaching.

At the time of writing there are 53 entries for the White and Blue Tees, Medal Format.

 

The Committee have reviewed this low level of entries, for what is one of the most important Club Competitions of the year.

 

The Committee has tried to analyse why the entry numbers are so low and we have received the following responses from a number of members who haven’t entered the Competition.

 

The main reason put forward was that playing from the White and Blue Tees in a Medal Format for 2 days is just too difficult for many of the Senior/Super Senior Members, both Male and Female.

 

Another issue related to the fact that if a couple shared a buggy because they need to use a buggy, on Day 2 of the Championship, they would not be paired together.

 

The Committee have decided to introduce a supplementary Club Championship Plate  based on a 2 Day Stableford Best Score for Members who would prefer to play from Yellow and Red Tees on both Days:

 

Day 1 – White and Blue Tee Medal Entrants tee off first – Yellow and Red Tee Stableford entrants follow

 

Day 2 – Yellow and Red Tee Stableford entrants tee off first in the same order as Day 1 to be followed by White and Blue Medal entrants who tee off in a Scoring order

 

Two issues to understand: 

Stableford Yellow and Red can only win the Championship Plate Prizes, Medal White and Blue can only win the Championship Prizes. 

Yellow and Red Tee Times on Day 2 will start from 07.00 am

 

The Committee are proposing this initiative so that a very full field of Members can have the opportunity to participate in the Club Championships “weekend”. The presentation ceremony will be held soon after the competition, where the Club champions as well as Championship Stableford Plate winners (both men and ladies) will be announced. There will be a small concert and a BBQ style buffet on the grass area. No payment is required from the competition participants.
