General Managers Update to Members – COVID SAFE PASS PROTOCOLS

9 July, 2021 By Webmaster

Dear Secret Valley Golf Club Member,

We have received an updated government protocol regarding requirements for service establishments to request all their customers present a current and valid safe pass.

Accordingly, effective 10th July, our golf shop staff have been instructed to request that all members and guests show their safe pass before being allowed to play golf or practice on the academy training facility.

As non-compliance will result in significant penalties potentially being imposed on both the individual member/guest as well as SVGR, I have also instructed golf shop staff that any member/guest not able or willing to present their safe pass must be refused the right to play.

Similar protocols apply to food and beverage service and Hillar and his team will require that all members/guests similarly present their safe pass before being served.

I apologise for any inconvenience these protocols impose upon you, but until we receive further clarification or changes to these protocols (which we expect soon), we all must live with them.

Stay safe

Captain’s Update to Members – Mon 17 May 21

17 May, 2021 By Webmaster

Dear SVGR Members,

The Committee and I hope you are all as well as can be and are extremely pleased that we now have permission to start Competitions.

We will continue to observe the R&A Covid-19 Guidance on the Rules of Golf and until we receive clarification on the use of course furniture, please continue to play as we all are and also observe the Competition Secretary’s guidance on the Competition News.

The first Qualifying Competition will be this Saturday 22 May with the May Stableford replacing The Ribeye Rollout (which will take place later in the year) and a week later on Saturday 29 we will have the May Medal.

We will also carry out the 150 Club draw on Saturday 22nd and Elaine MacMillan will be ever present to tend to any of your ticket or payment requirements.

The Fun Events we have ran so far have been a fantastic addition with some worthy winners, but we will now commence our 2021/2022 Fixtures List from this Saturday. There may be some tweaks to the published fixtures however the Comp Sec will keep you updated.

Additionally, most know that Mike Mason runs the Nine, Wine and Dine which takes place on the last Friday of every month with the next one on Friday 28 May: Details online.

Derek and his team continue to carry out some superb work on the course and as you have probably heard and seen, the Committee are trying to get Divot Bags and Pitch repair tools to all members (Who want them) which will assist the Green Staff.

To compliment this, we have a “Work Day” planned for Wednesday 2 June from 7 until 10am. Volunteers will be asked to repair divots, pitch marks, straighten stakes and cart signs and any other small tasks the Course Superintendent has for us.

All volunteers will be offered a breakfast roll and a drink in the Clubhouse afterwards, so pse add you name online. https://www.secretvalleygolfresort.net/workday-registration/

The Club Knockouts are cracking on and all players are requested to get their games in before the relevant Deadlines-again, good luck to you all.

The Committee are still looking ahead to try and plan a Members Party to include last year’s Trophy Presentation but will wait for clear and safe direction before doing so.

I’d just like to say a special mention of Meg and Trev Fordham who have been instrumental in updating the Club Trophy’s, adding missing names, photographing and cataloguing them; Superb work and thank you both.

We are still waiting for confirmation that our first away Inter Club match against Elea is still on Thursday 27 May, so please add your names on the website if you would like to take part and represent your Club.

On the Charity side of things, look out for a Captains Charity Auction soon. There will be fantastic prizes available such as, A Set of irons made by the metal from the QE2 propellors, a 4 Ball to play the Castle Course at St Andrews, Framed and Signed Flag & golf ball from the Cyprus Open and Cyprus Showdown Winners, Callum Shinkwin and Robert McIntyre, Signed Lions Test Tour 2013 Team Jersey, Porcelain Villeroy & Boch and several bottles of Whisky including one from 21 SAS, The Open, Loch Lomond and the Kings Own Scottish Borderers, to name but a few. More details to follow!!

Lastly, we are slowly getting there, the Competitions are starting, and we are enjoying some social in the Clubhouse, but we must highlight that the Pandemic is still with us and we are certainly not out of the trees yet, so please continue with your safety and that of others around you.

Enjoy your golf, each other’s company and give the Captain and Committee a smile when you see them 😊

General Manager’s update to Members – Corona / Safe Pass – 9 May 21

9 May, 2021 By Webmaster

Dear Secret Valley Golf Club Member,

Further to my letter of 6th May, we have received clarification as to the requirement of presenting a “corona pass/ safe pass” when playing golf, practicing on the Troon Golf Academy or drinking or dining at the Clubhouse.

In short, we have been advised that the protocols as recently announced allow for our members and guest to play, practice and drink and/or dine at SVGR without the need to present a “corona pass/safe pass”

Both the golf shop and restaurant will however request all members and guests sign the daily “track and trace” sheet prior to both playing and dining.

Please note that it is still incumbent on our members and guests to be in a position to show proof of compliance with corona pass/safe pass requirements should they be asked by Police or other competent authorities who are authorized to perform inspections.

We encourage all members and guests to comply with corona pass/safe pass requirements as we expect compliance inspections to be a regular occurrence at such establishments as SVGR.

Paul Dyer and I are meeting with your committee members next week once we have received updated advice and guidance from Cyprus Golf Federation regarding resumption of competitions and I will update you as soon as such guidance is forthcoming.

Regards and stay safe

General Manager’s update to Members on re-opening 10 May 21

6 May, 2021 By Webmaster

Dear Secret Valley Golf Club Member

I am very happy to advise that the latest government announcement published today, allows us to legally offer 18 holes play, commencing Monday 10th May, 2021.

Food and beverage will also commence trading next Monday including the Half Way House, and outside balconies.

We understand that inside dining will be allowed as from 1st June.

The government announcement includes the introduction of a “Coronapass” which as we understand as regards golf and dining at SVGR will require that all members and guests will be required to present either:

1.    A 72-hour old negative PCR or rapid antigen test, or

2.    Certificate confirming a covid vaccination (one only required) administered three weeks prior to playing or dining at SVGR, or

3.    Confirmation of having had the virus in the past 6 months.

We are currently obtaining clarification ex KOA and Cyprus Golf Federation re details and especially regarding resumption of competitions and I will advise you as soon as such clarification is received. I however see no reason why we should not be able to resume competitions based on my reading of the latest government announcement, however, management will lease with your Committee over the next couple of days to confirm this.

I will also update you when we receive advice ex KOA and Cyprus Gold Federation as to other current Covid related restrictions such as bunker rakes, and flags.

Let’s hope that this is the beginning of a road back to near normal and my team and I look forward to seeing you enjoying all that Secret Valley offers over the coming months.

Best regards and stay safe

Fri 30 Apr 21 – General Manager’s Update to Members

30 April, 2021 By Webmaster

Dear Secret Valley Golf Club Member,

We have attempted to obtain clarification as to whether it is permissible for our members who reside outside of the Paphos district to play golf at SVGR over the remaining week of the current lockdown.

The advice we have received from KOA, the Department of Health and CGF is at best, confusing and does not provide us with a precise ruling.

We have therefore concluded that our members who do not reside in the Paphos region, are welcome to play at SVGR, but do so at their own risk.

The requirement to produce a valid negative rapid antigen test prior to play will continue to apply until at least until the end of the current lockdown period.

The 3-hour travel pass requirement still applies and this requires that we limit play to 9 holes on the loop for the remainder of the current lockdown period.

All other requirements regarding Covid-19 health and safety protocols as set out in my letter dated 27th April will continue to apply until further notice.

Please also note, that the golf academy practice facilities will be closed until the end of the current lockdown period.

I again apologise for the inconvenience. However, we are committed to the safety of our members, guests and staff by complying as best we can with all government mandated protocols.

We are expecting an announcement from the government later next week as to protocol changes as from 10th May, and of course I will keep you informed as soon as we receive that advice.

Happy Easter and stay safe

General Manager’s Letter to Members – Course re-opening Thu 29 Apr 21

27 April, 2021 By Webmaster

Dear Secret Valley Golf Club Member,

I wrote to you on the 24th April advising that based on the then received advice as the latest Cocid-19 protocols, we sadly were to close for a period of two weeks commencing Monday 26th April.

We have, yesterday received an updated clarification from both KOA and Cyprus Gold Federation which allows us to re-open SVGR in a manner that remains compliant with both the letter and the spirit of the recently announced government protocols.

I am therefore happy to announce that SVGR will re-open to members over the age of 18, including use of buggies, commencing Thursday 29th April..

Please note, that as usual, we will be closed on Easter Sunday.

The strict requirement that all members who wish to play must present a valid negative rapid antigen test result will remain until further notice.

An email will be sent to you later today, confirming details as to bookings, and opening and closing times.

We are all concerned that the recent spike in reported Covid-19 cases is reduced to enable Cyprus to once again re-open its borders to both inbound and out bound travellers.

To that end, I urge all members to support the government’s efforts in this regard by complying with all protocols as recently announced when playing again at SVGR.

My team and I look forward to seeing you again soon.

Regards
