Huge thanks to Maurice Mawhinney who provided the entertainment along with Danny the Saxophonist, Catrin who produced some professional Pamphlets and those who contributed to the Auction and the evening.

General Managers update on Showers

24 August, 2021 By Webmaster

Dear Secret Valley Golf Club Member

Despite frequent requests to relevant governing bodies, we still have not been given approval to re-open our showers for use by members or guests.

It appears the major concern of the Health Department is the possibility of Covid-19 virus being transmitted via the steam created by use of showers

I sincerely apologise for this on-going inconvenience. However, as soon as we are allowed, we will re-open shower facilities, even if as a first stage, we only offer to members with a bring your own towel policy.

Stay safe and hopefully, cooler weather will be with us soon.

12 August, 2021 By Webmaster

Dear Members,

It is with regret that I have to inform you that I have decided to leave Secret Valley Golf Club, I am sorry that I am telling you all in writing but it’s impossible to see you all in person, there are so many people still away.

I would like to thank each and every one of you for the support you have given me not just at work but so many of you on a personal basis.

I am sure that Peter will be in touch very soon as to the plans for my replacement, who I am sure you will support just as much as you have me.

I have enjoyed every minute of my last 18 years at SV looking after you all.

I have been offered another job back in the Uk, so my last day will be September 8th, my door as always will be open to anyone who wants to come and see me until then.

I wish you all best wishes for the future.

Yours Sincerely,

General Manager’s update to Members

20 July, 2021 By Webmaster

Dear Secret Valley Golf Club Member

The last fifteen months have been extremely challenging and stressful to us all and unfortunately, the impact of Covid- 19 appear to be with us for some time yet.

Despite the financial challenges the pandemic has created, we have managed to continue to present our golf course in perhaps the best condition it has been for some time.

There are other areas of operations which we had planned to also upgrade and improve, however expenditure-imposed constraints have delayed many of our plans until business conditions return to some form of near normal.

Our food and beverage staff are doing their very best to provide our members and guests with the best possible choice of food and beverage options and service, despite daily challenges to do so. For example, despite our efforts to obtain supplies of Guinness, which I know many of our members enjoy, we have been advised that Guinness will not be available in Cyprus until early August.

Supply chain bottlenecks caused by Covid -19 have caused similar shortages with many other products we require for both golf and food and beverage operations which are beyond our control but which I am aware can and do occasionally negatively impact on your SVGR experience.

Despite these challenges our Food and Beverage operations are one of the very few in the Paphos region that continue to be financially viable and for that, we thank all members for their continued support and patronage.

Despite the many challenges caused by Covid-19, we are reviewing all aspects of SVGR operations to explore ways as to how we can best improve our service and your golfing and dining experience.

To that end, I seek your assistance by inviting you to provide us with any and all suggestions, concerns, complaints that you may have regarding any aspect of your golfing and dining experience at SVGR.

Your suggestions may be provided either by:

·         Meeting with me personally at any time

·         Emailing me, or

·         Hard copy at the golf shop

All responses will be received in the strictest confidence and once received and collated, I will summarise the suggestions and provide all members with feedback.

Thank you for your continued support of SVGR and we look forward to receiving your suggestions to assist us in our on- going efforts to provide you all with the best golfing and dining experience available in Cyprus.

Stay Safe

Captain’s Update to Members

18 July, 2021 By Sergey Pushakov

Captains Update

Dear SVGR Members,

Hope you are all well and your golf is in the best of orders? Mine is terrible!

I was told before taking up the Captaincy role that my golf would suffer,,,well, I’m now back to 11.7 double figures handicap, so the person who told me that is absolutely spot on ?!!!

Nonetheless, you will have noticed that someone has switched the heating up and I’m therefore requesting you to look out for each other out on the course, take plenty of fluids on board, slap on the factor 50, get under your brolly’s and try and make use of the shade where possible. It is only going to get warmer over the next two months, so take care everyone.

Our Club Championships and Presentations Party went extremely well and huge congratulations to all winners including Demetrios Paphitis and our Men’s and Ladies Champions, Andrew Richardson, and Ma li Min.

Thanks also to the Committee, the Course Superintendent, his staff and SVGR staff who contributed to making it such a success.

The Competitions Secretary continues to lay on some fantastic and interesting Competitions for us all and has asked me to remind you to enter online before the 7-day cut off.

If you cannot attend on the day, simply message [email protected] or call the Pro shop on 26274000, therefore preventing you being marked down as a “No Show”

We are allocated daily members tee times 7am until 9.50am, but Jamie has been on the front foot with the DoG requesting additional tee times if there are more than 72 members entered, or indeed, gives tee times back to the Club if there are less, so planning is key.

The Local Rules have been updated. Please acquaint yourself with them on the following link: https://www.secretvalleygolfresort.net/Local-Rules-2020

A new one on me, but this divot on the picture below was found on the 3rd Green. Someone has clearly hit a shot from the 2nd tee, landed on the 3rd Green and they’ve played it from that spot damaging the green!! If any member notices similar, can you pse call the Pro shop or pass a message to the duty Marshall, so we can try and identify these culprits…..thanks.

Jamie has added the correct ruling on this to his Comp Sec News:

https://www.secretvalleygolfresort.net/category/competition/compsecnews

Pse continue to assist the Green Staff with your Divot bags and Pitch Mark repair Tools (If you’re feeling generous, fix your own and another two Pitch marks ?)

On the Inter Club news, Secret Valley will play Minthis Hills on 5 & 23 August and Elea on 8 & 15 September, so if you would like to be considered, pse add your name to the Interclub link on the Website.

Unfortunately, a few players had to be DQ’d from the Knockouts as they didn’t play their matches before the last Deadline date.

Having ran these last year, I know how difficult it can be arranging matches, particularly with members who are Twilight/weekend members, so pse get on the front foot and plan well in advance and get your games booked.

Next Deadline is 23 August and the Point of contact for the Knockouts is the VC, Keith Ioakim: [email protected]

On the Social front, we are planning another party on 4 September (tbc) and maybe a Reggae Rockers Party in October.

We are also looking forward to a dinner and fireside chat from a former Special Branch Officer who protected three Prime Ministers…. Intriguing I know and details to follow!!

Lastly, I’m forward planning for Captains Day on Sat 18 September.

If you are feeling generous and you have something spare and relevant in your golf garage/Cupboard and you’d like to donate as a Raffle Prize, pse e mail me on: [email protected]

A few members have been very generous in the last few months and contributed anonymous monies from €10 to €2000 to the Captains Charity, Cyprus Association of Cancer Patients and friends, PASYKAF-Thank you guys and updated news is, the Captains Auction will be announced soon, but would also appreciate any small donations as we go through the year.

That’s all folks, play well and if anyone has any tips for me to reduce my Handicap, don’t bother…….I’ve spent too much money already ?

Final thought: No person in the world ever lost anything by being nice to one another.

Final Final thought: I regard golf as an expensive way to play Marbles!!
