Dear members
The committee agreed at the meeting on Friday 12th September to a trial of multi-tee medal and stableford tournaments
with four set handicap divisions with set tees, by using the slope ratings to group tees together, for the remainder of the 2025 season.
The trial will commence with the Tuesday stableford tournament on 14th October.
Furthermore, we would encourage all members to read the USGA Article 2024/10 (link enclosed) which explains course rating vs. slope rating, along with the general definitions provided below in respect to the SVGR course ratings, bogey ratings, and slope ratings.

Scratch Player
A player with a Handicap Index® of 0.0
Bogey Player
A player with a Handicap Index of approximately 20.0 for
men and approximately 24.0 for women
Course Rating™
An indication of the difficulty of a golf
course for the scratch player under normal course and weather conditions.
Example: 68.5
Bogey Rating™
An indication of the difficulty of a golf
course for the bogey player under normal course and weather conditions..
Example: 96.3
Slope Rating®
An indication of the relative difficulty of a
golf course for players who are not scratch players compared to players who are
scratch players. The lowest Slope Rating is 55 and the highest is 155.

We have extensively examined the topic within the committee and discussed the best possible regulation for members of
each handicap group under the multi-tee trial. The division into four strict handicap groups with set tees allows each player to compete with peers from the same handicap group.
SVGR has always been committed to promoting social inclusion. With this solution, we have succeeded in doing so again. The trial until the end of the 2025 season will show us whether we are on the right track. There may never be a perfect solution, but we are confident that the majority of the members will respond positively to the four divisions.
