Dear Secret Valley Golf Club Member,

Adam Collinson and myself have recently met with 2023 Captain Designate Willie El Fakir to plan your fixtures list for 2023 and also his views as to next year’s committee.

You have already received an email enquiring of all members who are willing to register their interest in being considered for the 2023 members committee.

As you know, the makeup of the committee is not officially confirmed until the AGM which will be held at SVGR in early February, 2023.

To expedite the process and to assist Willie in his forward planning, we would be grateful if any member wishing to be considered to be a committee member in 2023 communicate their interest in writing to either myself or to Adam preferably by the end of October, 2022.

Should any interested member require particulars as to the responsibilities of any committee member role, please contact either Willie, Adam or myself for details

There appears to be some confusion among some members as to the process of finalising your committee members and their respective roles.

I trust the following assists:

·         By way of precedent the current Vice Captain should he or she wish, automatically becomes the following years, Captain. In this regard, Willie has the full backing and confidence of management and the owners.

·         The time and financial demands of the Captain’s role is acknowledged and accordingly, Captain receives a 50% discount on his years membership fees for the duration of his/her Captaincy

·         Also, by precedent, Captain designate selects his/her Vice Captain. That person is generally one of the members who has chosen to stand for committee membership and is confirmed by management for such position after discussions with Captain designate and Director of Golf

·         Generally, the committee is made up of 7 members

·         Apart from Captain and Vice-Captain the committee also includes:

Ø  Treasurer

Ø  Compsec

Ø  Assistant Compsec

Ø  IT Specialist (ideally)

Ø  Secretary

·         As regards filling the above committee positions, that of course depends on the number of members who respond to our request to apply to be a committee member (and preferred role)

·         Should the number applying exceed the number of committee members required (which over the past 6 years has never happened) the process is as follows:

Ø  Captain Designate, Director of Golf and myself review the members applying and their skill sets with those members on an individual basis and hopefully, the makeup of the Committee becomes self-evident and is voted on and confirmed at AGM.

Ø  If agreement cannot be reached as to any of the roles, technically such can be resolved by the authority vested in Management pursuant to the Constitution, however my preferred solution is to put such to the members by vote at the AGM. (Please note that only paid-up Platinum and Gold members are entitled to vote at AGM)

·         All committee members other than Captain and Compsec provide their time and effort on a complimentary basis which is greatly appreciated by Management and I am sure by all members.

·         Due to the increasing work load required of the role of Compsec, such position is remunerated by way of the year’s membership provided complimentary by the owners together with an agreed financial remuneration which is negotiated between Management and the selected/elected Compsec.

I can assure all members that the process is completely transparent and in the interests of you as members and of course the owners.
