Course Maintenance Reminder

Dear Members, 
This is a reminder of the scheduled course maintenance taking place from Sunday 8th December . 
Sunday 8th December – The last tee time will be 13.00 
Monday 9th December – Course Closed 
Tuesday 10th December – Course Closed 
Wednesday 11th December – Course Closed 
Thursday 12th December – Course will reopen at 09.00 
During this time, the driving range and the pro shop will be open from 08.00 to 16.00 daily. 
Thank you for your patience and understanding as Mark and his team work to ensure the course continues to be in excellent condition.

Update – Loukas Adamou

Dear members

We are now just over a week away from the Golf Day to be held at Secret Valley in support of Loukas.
Loukas is currently undergoing intensive chemotherapy treatment at the German Oncology Centre in Limassol.  It is a tough regime for this outgoing and friendly young man as he is in isolation.  His parents are only allowed to spend 1 hour with him each day and they have to wear protective gear and masks to ensure Loukas does not catch any infection.
If all goes well this week, Loukas will undergo stem cell therapy next week.  Modern medicine is amazing but brutal.  
It will be sometime before Loukas will be sufficiently strong enough to return to work.  This is why your support is so important.  Please help to make this young man’s Christmas a little more special.
Saturday 14 December should be a special day with a variety of treats, supplied by volunteers, at the Halfway House.  Toma is providing Gluhwein and snacks in the Clubhouse, and Maurice Mawhinney has kindly volunteered to provide music.  Members are invited to dress festively and colourfully for this event.  Natalie and Pambos Adamou are very keen to help and you may see them at the Halfway House serving homemade sausages, a Pambos speciality, and in the Clubhouse after the game.  Loukas will be in hospital so it is wonderful that his parents can be there on his behalf.
The golf competition will be a 4 Player Team Texas Scramble with nearest the pin on all Par 3’s.  Jamie, who has kindly offered to sponsor ‘nearest the pin’, will publish further details next week.   There will be no entry fee for the competition, but donations may be made at the “check-in” desk, where you will also have the opportunity to buy raffle tickets.  
I wish to emphasise that all monies raised will go to Loukas.  All prizes, food at the Halfway House and  in the Clubhouse will be provided by volunteers.

Russia Day Competition

Dear members,
we would like to let you know that the Russia Day competition is now scheduled for Sunday, December 22nd. Please sign up on the website. The competition is a team format Waltz 1-2-3. There will be a welcome buffet at the halfway house with Russian treats and some vodka shots. All proceeds from the competition will go to support the Rainbow in Cyprus charity helping kids with disabilities. Everyone is welcome and you can invite guests.

Captain’s Shoot Out

it is with regret that I have to inform you that the Captain’s Shoot Out competition first rescheduled from summer because of the extreme heat is being rescheduled again, this time because of the extreme rain. I do hope that a third time will be lucky, and I shall ask the Management for a possibility to reschedule the event for January, perhaps on Wednesday the 15th.

This weeks Rules reminder

Caring for the Course.
The 3 R’s
1. Repair Pitchmarks
Pitchmarks need to be repaired as quickly as possible before the grass roots start to die.
If you cannot find yours, please do someone else’s.
The attached shows the correct way.
2. Replace Divots
Again, grass roots will start to die quickly if a Divot is not Replaced.
Replace as much as you can into the divot, try to match the shape to the hole, and gently press it down.
3. Rake Bunkers
You should measure your actions against how you would want to find a bunker.
Take a rake into the bunker with you.  So you don’t forget to rake.  It also means less walking.
Rake where you hit the ball as well as all your footprints.
Raking should be thorough, ensuring the sand is left as smooth as possible without ridges and holes etc.  A light drag of the rake behind you as you exit is not good enough.
As you get to the edge of the bunker push the sand away from the edge towards the middle of the bunker.
Even if you walk into a bunker to retrieve a ball, you must still rake the sand to smooth your footsteps.
Does any of the above really matter?  Of course it does.  If no-one cares for our course, it would soon be a mess.  In any case failing to “care for the course” could result in your disqualification!

CGF Cup

Dear members,

 

Secret Valley team successfully competed in the 2024 CGF Cup. We scored a very good 194 points which would have been enough to win us the Cup last year, but this year the winners are Elea (the home team) with a stunning 205 points. Very fast and uneasy greens at Elea presented the biggest challenge and the home team had a clear advantage in that area. We do look forward to bringing the Cup home next year if the event is played at Secret Valley. I am grateful to our team for their efforts.
