Protection of Green Surrounds and Tee Boxes

I hope this email finds you well.
In an effort to protect the green surrounds on Hole 4 during the coming winter months, electric and manual trollies must now remain on the buggy path at all times while on this hole. 
Additionally, as a general reminder, please ensure that trollies are kept at least 2 metres away from all other greens and tee boxes. This measure is essential for preserving the playing surfaces and ensuring the best experience for everyone.
Thank you for your attention and understanding. Your support in following these guidelines helps us keep the course in excellent condition.

[Members News] Update – Loukas Adamou

Dear Club Members 
As many of you are aware Loukas Adamou is undergoing renewed chemotherapy for the treatment of his cancer.  After one week of treatment it has been a bumpy ride for Loukas and his family.  A few days ago he was in ICU as his body struggled to recover from the aggressive therapy.  Then yesterday, Saturday, he was on the verandah at SVGC with his family smiling and greeting delighted friends.  The resilience, courage and hope shown by this young man is unreal.  His positive outlook for the future is a lesson for us all.  
Loukas has previously undergone 6 months of chemo and was given the all clear in June, only to discover a few weeks later that the cancer had returned.  
The committee has kindly agreed that the Club may hold a competition in support of Loukas on Saturday 14 December.  The details for the day are in the making but the theme will be Christmassy.  It will be a fun day and I am open to ideas for the event, goodies for the halfway house, raffle prizes and sponsorship.  All help/ideas/volunteers will be appreciated.
Please help to make Christmas special for Loukas, who may be in hospital throughout the festivities receiving blood cells and bone marrow.

Past Captains comp

Dear members,
tomorrow we have a Past Captains Challenge competition where members pay their tribute to those who led our Club in previous years. It has always been a fun competition, and we intended it that way.  Nevertheless, these events were very competitive, and everyone watched everyone’s score. Based on the feedback received, it was decided to call the competition what it really is – a qualifier with prizes for the best four scores as well as NTPs on holes 4 and 14. 
In addition to that the Committee decided to provide a free drink to every competition participant who came to honor the past club Captains. Please wear the colors of your team and let’s enjoy the event.

Club visit 28-09-2024

Dear members,
as you know during the Captain’s Day we raised 4,150 Euro for the “Rainbow in Cyprus” Charity. This money allowed the Charity to bring to Cyprus two boys Roman and Arthur together with their mothers and to give them some joy and happiness. As announced earlier, both boys will visit our Club on Saturday, September 28th and you will be able to greet them after our competition at around 2 pm.   
Please see below information about the boys:
Roman
Roman was born early in the 30th week of pregnancy, weighing 1328 grams and measuring 39 cm tall. Roman has been a fighter since birth …
Unfortunately, doctors did not notice the detachment of Roman’s retina in time in the maternity hospital, which led to total blindness. During 5 years of Roman’s life 10 surgeries have been made on his eyes to save them as an organ, as aesthetic appearance is also important. In his left eye, Roman still has light perception, which allows him to orientate himself well in space. Unfortunately, science and medicine have not yet learnt how to restore full vision in case of total retinal detachment. And now Roman needs only organ- saving surgeries for aesthetic appearance and to prevent frequent haemorrhages in his eyes due to high pressure.
Diagnosis: Stage 5 Retinopathy of Prematurity.
Despite his diagnosis, Roman is a very active boy. Since the age of 2.5 he has been swimming. From the age of 4 he started to study music, in particular vocal and piano. Roman himself by hearing picks up notes on the piano and plays melodies. He is a cheerful and musical child. He dreams of going to the sea, where there is sand and shells. This year Roman even asked his mom to buy him a bucket and a trowel, because he believed that his dream will come true and he will visit the sea.
Arthur
Arthur had his first stroke when he was two months old. After that, the doctors found a serious vascular anomaly on an MRI scan. At the age of two and a half, he had a second stroke. Doctors insisted on surgery, but they were afraid, because at that time it was the only child with such a diagnosis in Latvia. At the age of three Arthur had a head operation, but something went wrong, and a third stroke occurred. Arthur became paralysed.
Arthur was re-learning how to hold his head up, sit up, walk. In fact, he lived in the hospital.
The final diagnosis: VENAE GALENI MALFORMACIJA,SIMPTOMOTICESKAJA EPILEPSIJA, SUNTIROVANIE.
At the moment Arthur is studying remotely in the 9th grade, he attends the Paralympic center where he plays ball sports, he has daily physiotherapy sessions, he really likes and benefits from hippotherapy (riding a horse).
He has a very, very long-standing dream to go to the sea. Especially attracted to Cyprus – because it is the land of legends and sunshine.

Away Interclub match with Korineum

Dear members,
this is to inform you of the results of our Interclub away match with Korineum. 
We had a team consisting of only 14 players, but this small team managed to put on a real fight. Unfortunately, we lost 1 to 6, but we had two matches that were decided only on the 18th hole. Last year we were beaten 0 to 10 at Korineum so our team did make a good progress. It needs to be said that no team (Aphrodite, Elea, Minthis) has ever defeated Korineum in an away match. Their course is a lot longer (5,646 meters from yellow tees compared to Secret Valley 5,050 meters) and more challenging. Their players’ handicaps are based only on that course performance as Korineum is neither in Cyprus nor in Turkish golf federation. 
Despite the defeat we had a very good time competing and socializing with the Korineum players. I would like to express my gratitude to our team members who traveled long distance, who allocated a lot of time and a considerable amount of money to come there and to stand for Secret Valley. Well done for all of you!

Members News – Loukas Adamou update from Jeni Spoor

Dear Members, 
Sadly, for those of you who know Loukas Adamou our smiley barman, I have to tell you that Loukas’ cancer has returned after only 3 months in remission.  The cancer is in the thorax and requires aggressive chemotherapy treatment.
Loukas will spend 5 days every month in the German Oncology Centre receiving the necessary treatment.  After 3 months of this treatment he will spend one month in hospital receiving blood cell and bone marrow transfusions.
I know all members will wish Loukas a full recovery.  If anyone has any ideas on how we might help Loukas through his treatment I would welcome your ideas.

Away Interclub match with Korineum

Dear members,

 

on September 11th  we played a Home match vs. Korineum Golf Club. Unfortunately, we were beaten 6 ½ to 3 ½ and I am sure we can get our own back when we play there. 


The Away match is scheduled for Wednesday, September 25th starting at ~ 08:30 am.


As the majority of our club members travel from a long distance the deal (similar to last year’s) was negotiated with the Korineum resort: 

Those who stay overnight will check in by noon and play a practice 18 hole round starting 1 pm. on Tuesday, September 24th .


1 night half board , Double room sharing , 2 rounds of golf 


Per person: 246 EU 

Single room: 292 EU 


Club match only: 90 EU / 18 holes 


Lunch on Club Match Day: 15 EU / PP


We are still short of three ladies and two men players for the match, and I would encourage members to stand up for our Secret Valley and to sign up. Please do this ASAP by contacting me at [email protected]

Relaunch of 9W&D

Hi Club members,
Although running for many years some of you may not be aware that on the last Friday of every month we have a club competition called “9 Wine & Dine”.  As from September a number of changes are to be made and it will become 9 Wine & Dine +. Changes briefly are :
A choice of beer, wine (½ carafe Kolios – Red or White) or soft drink.
Specialist 9W&D menu.
Entertainment, perhaps 3 or 4 times per year. (No extra charge)
Future changes may be made following discussion with attendees.
This is a friendly “pressure free” 9 holes of Stableford golf off the yellow/red tees, followed by a meal in the clubhouse and local beer/wine.  The food is prepared by the Secret Valley Chef Alex and is of of high standard. Alex has designed a special 9W&D+ menu For example, Salmon in a honey/mustard sauce with roast vegetables and mashed potatoes, or Penne pasta Chicken with Choritzo sausage. Special diets can be catered for given notice.
The winning man and woman get their meal free and also a winners medal, whilst the last place takes the coveted “Wooden Spoon”.
The cost is only €15 for members including the golf, your guests also pay €15 if they only want the meal & wine/beer.  Guests wanting to play the 9 holes pay a “Greenfee”  €30 payable in the pro shop.
To enter click the 9 Wine & Dine blue button, a little below the “Enter a competition” you would use for a club comp. This opens the 9W&D page, with information about tee times and food choices etc. Then click on the Enter 9WD button and you will see the 2 monthly calendars.  Enter as you would for a club comp but in the comments box include which food you would like for yourself and any guests, (normally shown in the first week of the month).  You will later get a link to the draw (a couple of days before the game). Like with club comps you will need to enter at least 7 days before the last Friday of the month.
