Not for long and the first Interclub match of 2024 is just around the corner.
We will play in Minthis on the 13.3.2024. The Home Match is on 3.4.2024.
Not an easy opponent, as the place is a challenge, but that should not be a problem for our experienced members.
Selection criteria for all Interclubs 2024 are:
– Member for at least 12 months ( from 02/2023)
Gold, Platinum or Twilight membership. Gold and Platinum members are given preferential consideration.
– Max Handicap of 28
You sign in and are able to play for the Home AND Away match.
The Captain and Vice Captain are always set.
Since the Interclubs focus not only on golf, but also on the social aspect, you should also enjoy lunch together with the other players and exchanging ideas after the game.
Long-term friendships have already arisen as a result and we would like to intensify the contacts, make new acquaintances and present ourselves, as a club member of SVGC.
As I mentioned, at the AGM, it is very important to me to identify the players in a public draw on the terrace of our club.
There will be 3 boxes (3 divisions/ low, medium high hcp) each, for the men and women in which the names of the registered players are located.
I don't care if you've played several times in recent years or have never played an IC. For me, only the lot decides.
Anyone who played in the first two games will not be taken into account in the first step in the following draw. Exception, there are not enough registrations.
For all games, the “Spare Players” will also be drawn. Spare players have the chance to be set for the next 2 games if they have time.
Example: Frank was drawn as a “Spare” for the games in Minthis. The next club we play against is Elea. Frank has the desire and time to play both games against Elea ( H and A).
He comes in position 1 on the player list for Elea.
I have been thinking about a fair system for a long time and believe it is transparent and very fair.
The draw for the first two games is on Tuesday, 27/2/2024 around 2 p.m., on the terrace, in the clubhouse.
Please register, via our website, under the “Interclub” button asap.
I will also organize an IC against Korineum Golf Club in the summer. If you are interested, please contact me or Boris. So we can see in advance how many players we can expect. Detailed information will follow shortly.
Team color 2024 – yellow. Combined with dark (black or dark blue) trousers, shorts or skirts. Back to the old tradition. We are trying to get a sponsor for new shirts, but it’s not finalized yet.
Can you let me know your shirt size (S, M, L, XL), please ?
In a timely manner, each player will receive an email containing the special features of the match play.
When the season for the IC’s is over, I will give away a Dinner for 2 among all players. Another draw!

I would like to apologize for not being able to attend today’s AGM. Due to events beyond my control, I had multiple flights cancelled starting January 17th and I will now not arrive in Larnaca until 4:15 pm today.
I would like to thank all of you who have attended today’s AGM. I would also like to thank SVGR management (Nicos and Adam) for their support during my year as captain.

GOLF
This golf season we had
112 organized golf competitions organized by the CompSec and Assistant Compsec. This past week Andy was pulling his hair out organizing competitions while Jamies is away. I think we a members to no fully appreciate all of the work Jamie does for the club and I think it is outstanding that he will going forward continue in this role working for Adam here at Secret Valley.
For every competition, the results were compiled by the Competiton Secretary and published on the website the same day. The Competition Secretary also prepares the winner’s sheet and sends it to the Treasurer with the prize amounts for each player. The Treasurer reviews and verifies the winner’s sheet and then Treasurer instructs the Pro shop to issue the relevant vouchers. Finally the winner’s sheet is then posted on the website by our IT member. Truly a team effort!
This season we had:
2 hole in 1’s in member competitions (Maurice Mawhiney & Lisa Wells);
8 Interclub matches including 2 against Korineum organized by the vice-captain;
5 International days organized by various members;
11 KO events with over 100 matches player by members and coordinated by the vice-captain and the Assistant Competition Secretary;
For the above the above events the Treasurer had to collect, count and verify over 25,000 euros in entry fees (4,800 entries) and then pay out over 24,000 euros in prizes. I’m sure he got a little grey hair chasing missing entry fees from members who forgot to pay.
Captain’s Charity
This year we have been able to raise over 10,000 euros for my Captain’s charity – Autism. A final tally will be done after the presentation evening where one lucky person will win a year of free membership. I must thank the Director of Golf (Adam) for providing this at a very reduced rate so that the majority of the proceeds from the Captain’s charity draw go to charity.
150 Club
Once again Iona Elliot organized and ran the 150 club which contributed 2,400 euros to charity. Unfortunately, she is not here today due to her recent injury but I would like to thank her for the great job she did this year.
Quiz Nights
This year we had 5 quiz nights that contributed 870 euros to charity. I would like to thank the members and guests who attended and the quizmasters (Trevor and Meg Fordham, Baz Mckee and his wife, Ted McMichael and his wife, Jon and Erica Broadhead).
Food and Beverage
I would also like to thank Toma and her F&B staff for all of the support she gave the committee at many events throughout the year including quiz nights, the Club Championship dinner, Captain’s Day, Keo Cup, interclub, etc. They do an outstanding job and deserve our support and recognition.
Member Support
Finally, I would like to thank all of the members and past captains who have helped, supported and whispered words of encouragement to me throughout my year as captain.
Closing
It takes teamwork to make a golf club successful. I wish the next committee teamwork and a great 2024 representing our outstanding members.
