I would like to draw your attention to the upcoming Interclub Competitions. By following this link https://www.secretvalleygolfresort.net/competitions/interclub/ you can register and then take part. There are two undisputed great benefits in playing Interclub matches: (a) you meet golfers from other Cyprus clubs and (b) you get to play at Aphrodite, Elea, and Minthis for free 😊. The nearest competition away against Elea is less than a month from now and we need a brave and enthusiastic team to try and beat them on their turf. 

I would very much encourage you to sign up for these events. As Vice Captain I am responsible for the team selection, and I can promise you a fair and transparent selection process. I do know from my own experience and from many members who have told me that the selection for Interclub competitions has not been very clear and that the same people played every year and almost in every such competition, while others were, let's say it mildly, not very welcome. We do have information and statistics on past participation and I can assure you that the priority will be given to those who have not played much or have not played at all. But, if you do not sign up, you don't get selected. So please, stop whatever you are doing now and ask yourself – do I want to play for my club? And, if your answer is positive – go ahead and sign up!

New Captain Welcome Letter

Dear members,


My Background

For those of you who do not know me, my name is Willie El-Fakir.  I was born in St Louis Missouri.  My mother was American of Dutch descent, and my father was from Damascus, Syria.  They met at the University of Missouri.

I have lived in Cyprus since 1992. I joined Secret Valley in 2018.  Before that, I was a member at JSGCE for over 25 years.  Although it probably does not show, I have been playing golf since I was 17.  

This past year, I was the vice-captain, IT member and webmaster.   I also run my own business (MITSA INTERNATIONAL) that supplies tools, equipment, and manpower for electrical projects in the Middle East.

Captain’s Charity

My designated captain’s charity for the 2023 golf season is Autism. As I understand it, we must donate to a regional charity because if we donate to the Cyprus wide charity, then the government will reduce funding by the amount of our donation.

This year our members will have:

Knockouts (4 men’s, 4 ladies, 2 mixed, 1 scratch) (11)

Captain’s Shootout (Top 10 Men and Ladies in handicap order)

In addition, the Cyprus Amateur Men’s Open will be hosted by Secret Valley May 18-21.  


It is quite a busy golf calendar.

 

Quiz Nights

In addition, I would like to have quiz nights at least every other month.  We are tentatively looking at Friday March 3rd for our first Quiz night and we are hoping to get at least 6 teams of 6.  Cost will be 5 euros for the quiz. Full details to follow.

 

Sponsorship

We will be actively looking for sponsorship for golf events this year.  If you are interested in sponsoring golf events or are willing to help us find sponsors, this year, please let me know.


2022 Season Presentation Evening

We have sent multiple emails about this event and I hope to see as many members and guests as possible to make this event a huge success.


Captain's Drive In

The Captain's Drive in will be on Saturday, February 11th.  I am hoping for a large turnout and the opportunity to introduce myself to  members who did not attend the AGM.

Call for CGF Volunteers Junior Open 10-12 Feb 2023 at Elea Estates

The Severis Junior Open 10-12 February 2023 is this year being hosted by Elea Estates. Unfortunately, so far the CGF are VERY short of helpers for this 3 day event.

We would like to invite you to help with the Nicos Severis Junior Open 2023. It is the first CGF event of the year and the CGF’s premier Junior event (WAGR). This year the tournament will be hosted by Eléa Estate  Friday 10 – Sunday 12 February 2023. 

Volunteers will be needed for a variety of jobs on the three playing days: Friday, Saturday and Sunday (Sunday being a two tee start).

If you can help please email which days you are available. I will then co-ordinate the various tasks. At the same time please advise me if you will be staying for the buffet on the final day. The buffet is free for all volunteers. However, if you wish to bring a guest there will be a charge. 

Volunteer Tasks: Ball Spotters, Starters, Ushers, Referees, Hole in One Witness, Helpers and Registration Desks, Photographer and Live scoring data inputters.

Bonuses of volunteering

Volunteering is a great way to watch live golf, have fun, meet other golfing enthusiasts and become an active member of the Cyprus Golfing Community. 

Helpers receive a daily subsistence of €10.00. 

Volunteers receive a voucher to attend the Tournament Buffet on the final day of the competition.

Fruit and Water is supplied each day of the competition. 

The opportunity to qualify for the ‘Helpers Cup’ by volunteering for a minimum of two days per annum. The Helpers Cup venue is yet to be confirmed for 2023.

Terms of Reference – Vice- Captain

Select interclub teams, make match pairings and follow up with other clubs as necessary. Organize the meal for home interclub matches. Publish match results.

 

Organize the interclub matches for following golf year.

 

Work with the director of golf and competition secretary create the fixtures diary for next year.

 

Organize all knockouts and publish them on the website and update results throughout the year.

 

Assist the captain as needed.

 

Represent the committee at golf club events where the captain cannot be present.

 

Participate in the competition sub-committee composed of captain, vice-captain, competition secretary and director of golf.

 

Assist with obtaining sponsorship for member events.

 

Participate in committee meetings.


Note: The vice-captain is a 2 year commitment with the understanding that you will be captain the following year.


Terms of Reference – Competitions & Handicaps Secretary

 

Competitions

 

Responsible for the organisation and management of all SVGR Competitions including:         

 

Publish notice of competitions and specify the conditions of entry.

 

Using Data Golf software for admissions and publish the Draws on the Members Website

 

Ensure that a Comps Brief and scorecards (when required) are available for all competitions.

 

Check and validate all scorecards prior to the submission of scores via Data Golf as per the User Guide and as soon as possible after completion of a competition round (before Midnight on the day of the competition)

 

Work out and publish the final placings in competitions.

 

Advise the Comps Committee of any incorrect cards and/or disputes by competitors and resolve before finalising the completion on Data Golf and sending the results to the server. 

 

For Sponsored events, provide the Captain with a brief on prize-winners and scores prior to the presentation of the prizes.

 

Provide the Treasurer and IT Member with list of prize- for publication on the Members website.

 

Handicaps

 

Responsible for all Members Handicaps using the World Handicap System including:

 

Log onto Data-Golf every 24 hours, a critical function with the implementation of the World Handicap System (WHS) and complete the daily tasks as per the User Guide.

 

Import of new Members handicaps into the CGF WHS Database via datagolf

 

Assisting Members with any WHS Handicap Index queries through to resolution.

 

Daily monitoring of all members General Play scores submitted via MyCGF.

 

Updating Members on any changes/updates to the WHS

 

Liaise with the CGF Handicaps Chair to resolve any outstanding issues arising.

 

Updating CGF License renewal fees for all members

 

 

Memberships

 

Upon New Members joining, responsible for all aspects:

 

Registration on Data Golf

 

Applying for CGF licence

 

Updating Members email records

 

Issuing SVGR Members Welcome letter.

 

Providing general advice on joining the Members Website, Competition’s and World Handicap System.

 

Acting as the Point of Contact for any membership queries/issues to full resolution. 



Terms of Reference – Treasurer

 

Open and maintain bank account for club funds.

 

Receive and safeguard member entry fees for all competitions and knockouts.

 

Receive and safeguard funds received for charity events.

 

Reimburse committee members for approved expenses.

 

Prepare winner sheets and issue vouchers in coordination with Competition Secretary and IT member

 

Prepare monthly financial statements to be published on website.

 

Prepare year-end financial statements for auditor and present at AGM.

 

Work with Competition Secretary to determine value of OOM prizes and issue vouchers as necessary.

 

Participate in Committee Meetings.



Terms of Reference – IT Member

 

Modify website pages as necessary including (but not limited to):

    

·       Posting various documents from committee members and SV mgt to the website

·       Posting / update OOM / Eclectic tables and links

·       Adding new sponsors to website

·       Assisting committee members with sending mass emails to members as necessary

·       Posting winner's sheets

 

Participate in committee meetings

 

 

Recommended/Necessary Skills:

 

·       Microsoft Excel (intermediate/advanced level).

 

·       Microsoft Word (intermediate/advanced level).

 

·       Familiarity with use of Notepad+ or similar editors or be willing to learn.

 

·       Ability to create pdf documents from jpg, Word and Excel files.

 

·       Familiarity with WordPress or be willing to learn.

 

·       Interest and ability to make website changes using available tools.

 

·       Familiarity with a SSH/FTP file transfer program or be willing to learn.


Terms of Reference – Member’s Representative

 

Responsible for receiving and processing inquiries, concerns, requests and complaints from members.

 

Work closely together with the captain and Director of Golf.

 

Support the Captain in organizing and coordinating events and social functions.

 

Primary contact person for new members.

 

Participate in Committee Meetings.

2023 Interclub Team Registration

Dear members,

2023 season interclub team registration is now open.  If you would like to participate in this fun event, then please register at the link below.  Please note that this is a FUN/SOCIAL competition and the purpose is to give members the opportunity to meet and socialize with members from other clubs.  You will be expected to stay after the match and pay for lunch which will cost about 15 to 20 euros depending on the club.
Format:  4BBB Matchplay
Men will pay from the Yellow tees..
Ladies will play from the Red tees.
There are no handicap limits.
Each event will have 20 players (14 men and 6 ladies).
We will try our best to ensure that everyone who registers is given an opportunity to play at least 1 match.
Please note that you must re-register every year for this team every year as all registrations from 2022 have been deleted.  So if you played last year, please register again for 2023.  When you register, please select only the dates you will be available to play.

The 2022 season ending presentation evening will be on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at the Alexander the Great Beach Hotel (Roxanne’s Restaurant).  We will present all KO and OOM awards for the season at this time.

Above rates are on BB basis, they include a discount of 10% and all taxes and service charges. Please note that space is subject to availability at the time of the final confirmation.
The hotel has a total of 55 rooms with two single beds in them, so they are unable to confirm more than 30 twin bedded rooms at this point, the rest of the rooms will have one double bed in them.

 

In order to confirm the venue, we need a minimum of 25 people to pay a deposit of 20 euros each not later than January 7, 2022 as we must a pay a non-refundable deposit of 500 euros.  Details on how to pay the deposit will follow.
