Quiz Night Friday, June 2nd, 2203

The next quiz night will be Friday, June 2nd 2023.  Please arrive by 6:30 pm for a 7:00 pm start.  Our last quiz night was a great success with over 45 participants.  Please make sure you book in with Hillar and Toma in advance so they can ensure they have enough staff to support the event.
The quiz master will be Baz McKee.

Match at Korineum

Dear members,

as you know on May 31st we, for the first time, will have an away match at Korineum Golf club.

This is the first such event and therefore the selection criteria that has been in force (i.e. those who did not play at interclubs before have a priority) does not apply. Absolutely everyone can register and take part. I need to send the list of names together with a chosen package to Korineum by the end of this week i.e. by May 14th and I would encourage you register soonest.

Interclub Away Match vs Korineum
I have negotiated the following packages from Korineum:
  1. One night HB accommodation in a double room, 2 rounds of golf, lunch on the second day (with competition results). Cost 200 Euro/per person
  2. Same as above but in a single room. Cost 240 Euro
  3. No overnight stay, 1 round of golf + lunch. Cost 75 Euro
The course there is not easy, and many SV members have not played there before/recently. So the agreement is that we arrive on Tuesday, May 30th at have a “practice round” starting around noon or 1 pm. With 20 players it's just 5 flights so we will definitely be done by 6 pm. The next day the match starts around 07:40 – 8 am with the goal of finishing the match by 1 pm to allow for check out.
According to Adam our course will be closed for maintenance on May 29-30th and will not be in good shape on the 31st. It looks like an ideal time for the members to play at Korineum.

Member Update May 2023

Dear members,

Another month has passed. As the expression goes, April showers bring May flowers.  Well we certainly had some rainy days in April, and this May will certainly be much warmer and drier. 
The Club Championships is May 13th and 14th. Thanks to our sponsrship team, we have secured multiple sponsors.  There will be a presentation dinner on May 14th. Please make sure you book in for the dinner asap.
The following weekend is the CGF Amateur Open at Secret Valley.
We also have interclub matches. Aphrodite Hills on May 17th and Kourineum on May 31st.
Our quiz night on April 21st was a huge success and we raised 245 euros for the Captain's charity. Our next quiz night is  Firday, June 2nd.
I have been advised that there will be some maintenance work on the course at the end of the month so the course will be closed on May 29th and 30th.
The Captains shootout was originally scheduled for May 31st, but it will be re- scheduled due to the course maintenance.

T.H. Hospitality Ltd arranged public liability insurance for all our members. Each of our members or guests are insured up to one million euros with Abbeygate Insurance Ltd policy.

Insurance covering the following areas: Restaurant, both balconies, stairs to grass area, event area downstairs (Grass Area), Parking area front of the Clubhouse.

Internet Speed & TV

 

Also, we upgraded our Internet speed to 50 mb/s.

Lounge area at the front of fireplace will be equipped soon with the big screen, all international Golf and sporting events will be screened seven days a week.

Fisherman’s Friday will be happening every Friday – all day.

St George’s Day

Dear members,

I would like to personally thank all of the member who participated in today's St. George's Day. I would like to especially thank those members who attend the prize giving presentation today.  It was great to see members at the prize presentation.  These events do not happen by themselves There is a lot of work behind the scenes.  All of the prizes and the raffle were coordinated by Ted McMichael, Jamie Evans and the Pro shop staff.  Thanks to Ted's  efforts, we raised 305 euros for the captain's charity.
I would also like to make a special thanks Pamela Mills who  very generously donated a little box containing earrings and a locket necklace, €100 cash and a very good bottle of Ouzo.  As an aside until recently she was the oldest playing member of SV but now in need of a new hip, shoulder and knee.   Thanks you so much Pamela!!
There were also a lot of members who donated prize for the raffle, and I cannot thank them enough.  Finally it was great to see members support my charity by buying raffle tickets.
I leave tomorrow to the USA for some family weddings, but I will be back in mid May just in time for the club championships.

Quiz Night April 21, 2023

Dear members,

I woudl like to thank all those who attended the Quiz Night on Friday.  We were able to raise 245 euros for  the Captain's Charity.  We had 49 players and all the money paid went to charity. Toma an Hillar donated 10 bottle's of wine.  The winning team each received a bottle of win and the rest were given away as raffle prizes.
Our next quiz night will be on Friday June 2nd.

Captain’s Charity Quiz Night Friday April 21, 2023

Dear Members,

Our second Quiz Night will be Friday April 21st directed by quiz master Trevor Fordham.  Trevor has organized a sound system, so hopefully everyone will be able to hear the questions this time.
Timing is 6:30 PM for 7:00 PM SHARP start.
Food and drinks will be available ala carte off the standard menu.  You can eat before or during the quiz as you prefer.  As there will probably be 60 + players, I suggest you arrive a bit early if you plan to eat.
If you do no have a team sorted in advance, do not worry, we will help you sort that out upon arrival.
The cost per player will be 5 euros – all of which will go to charity less any expenses.. Toma and HIllar have graciously agreed to donate bottles of wine for the winning team.

Interclub Away Match vs MHGC 2023-04-05

We had a great away match against MHGC on April 5th.  It looked very promising as we won 3 of the first 4 matches. However, something must have happened after 9 am as we lost all of the remaining matches, so the end result was 3 to 7.  Overall MHGC won 11.5 to 8.5.  
 
This year the winning team was awarded a trophy called the Hill Valley Cup. Hopefully we can win it back next year!
 
We will have a Away match (May) and a Home match (June) against AH.  Selections for these teams will be made soon.
 
In June, for the first-time we plan to have home and away matches with the team of Korineum Golf Club. The away match will be played under a package deal (two rounds of golf + half-board + one night hotel accommodation). We will soon be asking for members willing to play at Korineum.
